John Harwood boasts an impressive 37-year tenure in the legal field, having co-founded both McKinnon & Harwood, LLC and the current practice of Harwood, Garland & McKiernan LLC.

Specializing in personal injury, domestic law, products liability, and DUI cases, Mr. Harwood has demonstrated his legal acumen through successful trials within the courts of Rhode Island and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He is no stranger to the Rhode Island Supreme Court, where he has presented compelling arguments on numerous occasions. Additionally, Mr. Harwood has extended his legal expertise to represent several esteemed National Hockey League and American Hockey League players, aiding them in contract negotiations and acting as a trusted agent.

Beyond his legal endeavors, Mr. Harwood has made substantial contributions to his community. He served on the advisory board of Big Brothers and was honored with the Robert Cy Killian Humanitarian Award in 2000. Moreover, he was designated the March of Dimes Citizen of the Year in the same year.

Mr. Harwood's influence extends into the political sphere, where he has been a steadfast presence in the State of Rhode Island. A former member of the House of Representatives from 1980 to 2004, he held the position of Speaker of the House from 1993 to 2003. In this role, he oversaw the monumental responsibility of presiding over the 2.8 billion-dollar Rhode Island state budget. Presently, he is an esteemed member of the National Speakers Conference.

Educationally, Mr. Harwood's qualifications are truly distinguished. He holds a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, The Wharton School, an MBA from the University of Miami, and a J.D. from the Boston College School of Law. He is an active member of the Rhode Island and Massachusetts Bar Association, the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and the First Circuit Court of Appeals. During his time at The University of Pennsylvania, Mr. Harwood excelled not only academically but also athletically, showcasing his skills in hockey and baseball. In recognition of his athletic prowess and contribution, he was inducted into the inaugural class of the University of Pennsylvania Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999.
